More Easter Egg’s at our Lake District project, and today’s gamers think they hold the monopoly! Some seriously humorous contractor over the years decided it would be funny to hide an reuse sheet material from an original box of dynamite (label still glued to the timber casing I might add) and carefully hid it beneath sail cloth inside the timber panelling!
With the property used as a bakery in Victorian times, the positioning of this find was inside a purpose made “serving hatch” beneath the panelling! This is one of many artefacts that the house has given up that will be staying in a 3d picture frame for future visitors to enjoy and experience the history the building has endured! For those worried that this may be a victorian version of the gun powder plot, the house is a stones throw from the historic open cast Keekle mine – think it was a case of bringing his work home!
